On behalf of Leonard Cheshire Disability I am extremely proud to launch the inaugural Ability Media International Awards. Our vision is to build a society that is a place where every disabled person can enjoy their rights and has the opportunity to fulfill their potential. We want people with disabilities and other marginalised groups to be empowered to live life in the way they choose, in a society that recognises ability and diversity. Media and mass communication shapes how we think, respond to each other and ultimately act towards each other, and positive representation of disability and celebrating success through these awards are our way of making change happen. Our goal is for disabled people to have access to every part of society and sphere of life, and the freedom and opportunity to be an influential, intellectual and creative force.
